Xcaret Xtra Credit
According to local legend, way back in 1984, a Mexico City architect named Miguel Quintana Pali (no relation to Larry Quintana Roo) purchased 12 acres of swamp land just a bit south of PDC, way past Liverpool. He planned to build his own family compound and retreat among the many mangled mangroves, huge hungry iguanas and jagged rocky shore. He wanted his own little piece of heaven on the coast of the Caribbean just for his family and peeps. Cool.
But, just as Jed Clampett surprisingly discovered, something else was brewing just below the overgrown jungle. It wasnât black gold, but it was wet gold. Undiscover secret cenotes, lost Mayan temples and flowing canyon rivers to the sea. So, Miguel, being a reasonable sane and somewhat forward-thinking hombre, concludes people would actually lay out some serious pesos to see this stuff and declared, âI will build the worldâs best Eco Park!!!â And as they say, the rest is history-Xcaret was born in 1990. In that year I was just a struggling, mid-level government employee working xtra hard at the US Department of Redundancy Department. I had no idea what was happening just south of the border. But today, we visited the famous Xcaret Eco Park for the first time.
As my pristine, yet sometimes gassy, esposa premiera and I joined a small group for PDC buds to visit X, I was excited and apprehensive. A lot of walking around a hot, sunny jungle didnât sound like too much fun. And to make it worst, one of our group members kept claiming it was her birthday! We tried ardently to ignore her, eventually bribing her with a couple adult beverages. She quietened down soon after. Geez, some people!
Oh, and the park was super beautiful, remarkably designed and crafted as well as engaging throughout. Around every curve and corner was a little and sometimes large attraction or xperience. A lone celloist, floating rock or tree, or some exotic animal or flora. Between the xquisite pink flamingos, stunning canyon river and relaxing xotic lagoon, it was well worth the trip and listening to all her bogus birthday claims. Bravo billionaire Miguel, well done. Oh, and a most happy xcellent birthday, Marvelous Ms. M.
